"On a starry night, point out to the stars in the sky to your child and ask them if they would want one of them. Chances are, they will say that they do. Ask them which star they would like to have and why?"
Then, explain to them that they in fact, are like a star themselves. And stars create their own light. They do not depend on anyone or anything to create the light for them. And then tell your child that they, too, have the ability to shine bright , just like the stars if they learn to create their own light.
Depending on your child’s age, they may now ask you – How do I create my own light? To this, you must answer, by listing down all the values that you want your child to instill from a young age such as by being kind, helping others, sharing toys, saying the magical words of please, thank-you and i’m sorry. If your child is older, you can emphasize more on the concept of believing in yourself ,being grateful and respecting elders. You can also explain your child the concept of finding what they love to do and then aiming for the stars to be successful. Depending on your child’s age there are various ways to introduce certain values and ideas to them. Regardless of their age though, it is important to begin having these conversations. Conversations that will make them think, believe and give them a sense of excitement. At this point you can even recite a few famous nursery rhymes such as twinkle twinkle little star… at the end of the day, your child needs to feel like a star.
Parents, always remember the importance of giving reassurance, appreciation & compliments to your children. It helps them believe in themselves and their potential from a very young age and this confidence is the best tool you can give them to help them achieve all their goals in the future! Every day counts: start now!
